Here are some limitations of Instant Messaging:

1. One-to-One only – There will be no support for conference chats which should continue to be done using the existing chatter functionality.
2. Multiple Simultaneous Conversations – Though a single conversation is with only one other person, it's possible for a user to have several such conversations running simultaneously.
3. Between Connections Only – Instant messaging is only possible between confirmed connections. There are no additional security settings to specify who can message you, or to block individuals except to remove them as a connection.
4. No Message History – There is no permanent storage of the messages sent, and once a particular chat session has ended there will be no way to view what was said
