I'd like to be able to use the Chrome or Safari browser to edit articles.

On second thoughts, whilst this would be useful, I guess it would be a fair amount of work, and there is a simple work around (use Firefox).

I would personally prefer to see the dev time spent solving some of the other requests here (such as fixing the Confirm Event to confirm all events if it is a series) for which there are either no work-around, or the work-around is very inconvenient...

I agree this is a need that will become more and more needed. On the Google Analytics for our site the browsers stats have IE - 49%, FF - 22%, Safari - 16%, Chrome - 8%. So to me it is not an immediate need but will become more pressing as the market share changes. We have enough Web Office user in the field where we cannot totally control the tools they are using.

Google Analytics is probably telling only part of the story. My guess is that the people who find themselves in the position of editing documents are more likely to be the more computer literate ones, and are therefore more likely to want to use a different browser. I normally use Chrome or Firefox, but I always use IE when using Web Office simply because neither Chrome nor Firefox work so well. I probably show on your stats as an IE user even though I'd rather not be.

I wouild love Chome support for the doc editor but can also think of many other things to develope first. Happy to keep on switching to IE for doc editing et, but also just found a chrome extension that does it nicely "Chrome IE" allows you to bookmark weboffice and it then open IE within chrome. Seems to work for me https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gjgaiolkeejfnpjmjdgnngeib...

Thanks Mark. This works for me, too.

I have tried using "Chrome IE" with weboffice before and it didn't work, but it does now so that's great.

I seem to run into all sorts of problems when I use any browser (other than IE). For example, I have just deleted a load of rota items in Firefox. Very quick (compared to IE) but they didn't save. Unfortunately, I didn't catch the errror message so will have to report back next time. Not so quick in the end as I've had to do them all again in IE.

The Web Office is fully compatible with Firefox and there are no known problems with saving rotas in Firefox. If you replicate the issue, Tony, let us know so we can track it down.

I use Firefox most of the time and find it much faster than IE. But if I need to edit a table (to change alignment or set the width, it just doesn't work in FF and I have to switch to IE.

Using my iPad more and more and it's frustrating to have to start the pc and load IE to edit docs.

Being forced to use specific versions/brands of software is going completely against my reasons for wanting to expand our online presence in the first place.

No, I'm not expecting our users or visitors to use iPads and the like, but making things compatible with all major browsers ought to be a priority in this day and age, so that it simply doesn't matter what platform we're on! The W3 standards can't be *that* different for each major browser?

Sorry if that sounded like a rant, but the frustration is growing in this seat...

I am finding that table layouts look and work well in IE but when viewed in chrome they seem to fall apart. Is there a fix? Specifically table widths?

Yes. The more the merrier! Chrome is fast becoming the "relevant" browser...

Yes please, it would be good to be able to use not only Firefox to edit.

IE is desperately slow.  When you're adding events into a calendar for a week at a time it takes an age and is very frustrating. Chrome is so fast when I use it for blogging and other admin activities that I never use IE for anything other than Web Office. I really don't want to add a third browser to my laptop. I have the one I prefer to use plus IE which I don't want to use. I can't imagine IE holding on to the stats you quote for much longer.

Being able to use Chrome for editing would be great, especially as Firefox seems to have become sluggish with recent updates.

Tried Using the Chrome IE extension and it works great for some things, much quicker than IE. However it doesn't work in the Calendar for setting the map positions explicitly. Still at least it's saving some time so thanks for this suggestion.

Yes please, Firefox comes a lousy third to Safari and Chrome.

Unfortunately the Google Chrome extension for Internet Explorer seems to have stopped working now. Sad it was quite good.

Now I'm back to doing the absolute minimum of updating to the website with the snail browser IE. Yawn! Yawn! while I wait for the calendar items to load or save.

Back in February last year Rachel Arnott pointed out that Chrome's market share was only 8% with IE being 49%. Well things, they are a-changing. According to an article on the BBC News website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17663669), Chrome's market share is now 31-32% and IE around 36%. If the graph continues the same trend then Chrome will be market leader within weeks. It's already ahead of Firefox by some 7 or 8%

Come on Endis, how about some browser compatibility?

I'd like support for Safari so I can use my iPad when I'm away from my desktop PC.

Any word from ChurchInsight on this?  Portable devices (non-IE) seem to be the way forward for a lot of people these days - would be a shame to cut them off from fully accessing or contribute to Church-Insight-powered sites...

Hi guys, heard a little whisper from the dev team that there are discussions going on about Chrome compatibility –  no detail or promises as yet, but just wanted to keep you in the loop : )

I agree Tony! Interestingly, Safari and Chrome are built on the same code base, so who knows what might be possible. I'd like to see some iOS/mobile Safari compatibility, at least in article editing.
